Susan Dickman

Susan Dickman has shown work at the Spertus Institute, Evanston Art Center, Bridgeport Art Center, and Morpho Gallery. She is a graduate of the MFA program at the University of California, a recipient of writing awards from the Illinois Arts Council, and has most recently published in Best of the Best American Poetry and online journals.

Her explorations and work are concerned with the persistence of narrative, memory, internalized responses to genocide, the lost spaces surrounding language, and the natural world and light as a source of inspiration. Using photographs, beeswax, damar resin, cold wax medium, oil pigments, and found materials such as books, seeds, wire, and salt, she works to cover and reveal, gouging, scraping, and incising to explore the idea of loss and the effects of time on culture.
